Event Prep: As discussed in the previous blog, we decided on White Elephant Bingo. I went shopping last week to pick out prizes. I decided on six total prizes. The prizes included a balloon dog Christmas ornament, a doughnut Christmas ornament, a set of retro themed erasers, swan slippers, a football signed by the back to back state champion Dragons, and a stuffed poop emoji that sings and dances. After purchasing, I bagged each gift in festive bags. The Event:
This past Wednesday, I went to Woodland Terrace for the last time. I took my gifts, and sat in with a handful of ladies who decided to join holiday bingo. After I learned how to call bingo, I jumped right in to leading it. We played a few games, and gave away all of the prizes within the hour. The ladies liked the football and the poop the best, as they stole them from one another after winning.

The Idea As the semester is nearing an end, I needed to decide on one more event with Woodland Terrace. I tossed different ideas around including holiday karaoke, white elephant gift exchange, ugly sweater contest, etc. Thought these initial ideas sounded fun, they just weren't practical. I discussed my ideas with my partner Olivia, and of course, Lindsay of Woodland Terrace. We came up with a special event, Holiday Bingo: White Elephant Edition. What's next? After break, Olivia and I will be shopping for 10 unique and funny white elephant gifts. These gifts will be used as prizes for our Holiday Bingo. Until then, I will be searching for prize ideas! I am nearing the end of high school. I will receive my diploma on December 20th, 2019. I have 16 school days left until I am graduated, so I hope to make the most out of my last event for this class! Excited to announce CyberSeniors was very successful. Click the above button to view!
Planning One of the preplanned events at Woodland Terrace was the annual Fall Frenzy Trunk or Treat. The community is invited, and the residents are encouraged to participate in some way or another. Some residents passed out candy. Some walked/rolled around the campus to experience the whole event. Some just chilled outside on the patio and enjoyed fresh apple cider and cotton candy. Olivia and I volunteered to host a booth. We had originally planned to have a haunted tent. Some of the plans fell through, and it ended up just being me at the Fall Frenzy. The Event
Lindsay, our Life Enrichment partner, had me help with the game station. I played games with kids and gave away prizes. I had Pumpkin Ring Toss. At first, I struggled with the game, which was SUPER embarrassing (haha). The kids were absolutely KILLING me in this game. I practiced it in between rushes of people. Eventually, I was the one impressing the kids and the residents. It was so much fun for everyone involved! I think my favorite part of being there was when the some of the residents recognized me and were excited to see me. The Idea During our planning, we met with Life Enrichment Coordinator, Lindsay Watts, to come up with event ideas for the semester. She told us about a handful of events that were already planned. She welcomed us to join in on these fun projects, so that is exactly what we did with the Fashion Show! The Show In the first annual Ladies Fashion Show, the women were treated like royalty. They were showered with love. They had their makeup done and dressed up nice. The show was sponsored by Studio52. They provided lots of clothing options as well as hair and makeup products. At the end, the items were up for sale in the shop (located in the building). As the ladies walked the runway, they were shot by photographers. The young men that worked in the cafe area hosted the ladies well. The Outcome
Overall, each of the residents had a great time. They had a chance to look and feel like a million dollars in front of family, spouses, and friends. Everyone was smiling ear to ear! THE IDEA My first project for the school year is called "Senior Night." I am working on this project with Olivia Murphy. We decided to work with the local nursing home, Woodland Terrace of New Palestine. We are both passionate when it comes to helping others. Olivia and I have volunteered at Woodland Terrace a few times, so the decision was easy. We love the elderly community and want to make a difference in their lives. PITCH DAY A few weeks ago, our class had "Pitch Day," where we presented our ideas. We plan to host many fun nights with the residents that involve high school volunteers. These nights will be an easy way to connect NPHS with Woodland Terrace. Soon after "Pitch Day," we were in touch with the Life Enrichment Coordinator, Lindsay Watts. Lindsay met with us and went over the events that we are going to host and helped us with the logistics of our project. She has been a great help with getting organized. LOGISTICS & MEETING Our resources will be mostly provided by Woodland Terrace, so we are in the process of applying for grants for the handful of supplies that will still be needed. Lindsay provided us with a space to host events, too. She also gave us new ideas, opportunities, and ways to piggy-back onto current project nights. CYBERSENIORS Along with fun Senior Nights, we will also be hosting CyberSeniors throughout October. CyberSeniors is a program that allows high schoolers to teach the residents more about their phones, tablets, and laptops. These conventions will kick our project off. |
